how many cfms does the 2.2L I4 take in

i would like to know how many cfm's (cubic feet per minute) of air the 2.2L Camry engine would take in at max load?

that's kinda variable, cause think about it, the rate of air coming in at full throttle at 4000rpm is gonna be more than the rate of air coming in at 2000rpm.

therefore the airflow rate is a function of the engine speed i'm assuming...........i'm guessing........

am i right?

1000 cfm's NA yeah right buddy
here is some info i pulled off a supercharger site

CFM 850
Max Horsepower 500
External Scroll Diameter 9.0"
Front to Back Thickness 6"
Intake External Diameter 3.25"
Intake Internal Diameter 2.90"
Discharge External Diameter 3.0"
Discharge Internal Diameter 2.6"

paxton supercharger for V8's and 850 cfm boost is good enough up to 500 hp so if the camry is 1000 it must be pretty god damned powerful

Very easy to calculate..........
U know RPM say 4000

if ur crank is doing 4000 RPM then your cam will spin at 2000 RPM.
Thus this means your going thru 2000 Timming cycles per minute.

(i.e. all cylinders go thru the 4 strokes of combustion)

Now take ur displacement multiply by how many times ur cam spins or simply RPM/2.

So you have a 2.2L well how many CF is that? i have no idea.
Lets work in Litres 2.2 * 2000 is 4400 Liters per minute.

That is, 4 400 000 CC a minute!

Now, 16.4 CC is one CID.

4400000/16.4 is about 268292 CID.

1728 CID in a cubic feet. (12*12*12)

268292/1728 is about 151.

SO About 151 Cubic Feet of air is sucked up by your engine every minute at 4000 RPM.

Where did i get this formula? I made it up using logic. IF you guys think its wrong please tell me why!
HOpe this helps.

CFM = CID x RPM x VE ÷ 3456

CID = N (number of cylinders) x 0.7854 x bore x bore x stroke (all in inches)

Bore on 5S-FE is 3.43". Stroke is 3.58".

CID = 4 x 0.7854 x 3.43 x 3.43 x 3.58 = 132 CID

CFM = 132 x 6,200 x .8 ÷ 3456 = 189 CFM assuming 80% efficiency.
