rear speaker help

camry experts,
i need some help....
removed seats, side cushion, seat belt hooks.
trying to pull the top which has the grill on it.
but there are these white "C" plastic hooks which
are holding these up. how do i remove these (it is
really frustrating 'coz i can't push these things from
trunk or i can't rotate and pull the top with grill because
the cardboard seems to be breaking if i use force).

do i have to remove seat belt bolts (those suckers are very
very tight)?

also, do i have to remove the side top trim where this
whole grill thing goes under?

this is a 2001 camry....

help please.........

Well unfortunately I can't say for sure about the '01 model; but for my'97 I had to remove the top side plastic moldings, and also the seat belt retractor bolts. Yes they're on tight but you can do it.

Once those were removed it was ok to slide the deck cover off.

Good Luck

Gene.

finally, i had to remove the top plastic molding. i just took
a chance and yanked it. it came off. now i am all set to buy
a speaker.
i am thinking of buying it from toyota(although costly $33)
which will save me some fitting issues.

any thoughts??

are your old speakers not working? why would you want to replace your stock speakers with stock speakers? i just put in a pair of 6x9s in the rear of my car and all i had to do was drill four new holes for each speaker. there wasnt much more work involved than that. althought the front speakers are another matter

Yeah how do you remove the front speaker on a 97 camry. Also is it really neccessary to take out the whole back seat just to get to the rear speakers. They sure did make it hard for you to use aftermarket speakers....LOL But just wonder I have a pair of Bazooka 6x9s that I want to put in the car. And I think my front speakers are busted just want to check em out.

Its very easy to replace the front speakers. I have a 97 camry LE and all i did was take the screws out of the door pannels, and the pannels are held on with clips. You also have to take out the door handle housing. To do this you just get a flathead screw driver and stick it in between the lock and top edge and pry down, then do the same to the bottom side. You will need to buy mounting brackets in order to install the new speakers unless you get the 6 3/4 speakers. 6.5 require the brackets. Hope this works.
