Plug or Patch the Tire??

Alright..I need to know what all of you would do..Please only those with aftermarket tires..i.e. low profiles..I have a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 245 40 17's

I have nails through the TREAD..not sidewall. I have had tires plugged before but what do you guys think about the kit they sell at auto stores like Autozone or Pepboys.

Theres a kit which includes this giant needle threader looking thing and extremely sticky orange/brown looking crap which you use to plug the tire.

Now the nails are relatively small so would you guys recommend just plugging with the DIY kit or taking it in to the shop to get an actual internal patch and plug?

All respones appreciated~!!

those leather plugs is pretty much what tire shops use, just make sure to goop it up good and you're set

done it dozens of times in shop class and working at a garage, never had problems

If you aint a pro at DIY. Compare the price for DIY and tire shop and think from there on. To me I let the tire shop handle it since its what you run on. If you think the DIY isnt gonna flat or whatever in the middle of nowhere then go for it

yeah, DIY, what's the worse that happens, you get a slow leak and have to try again,

just follow the instructions on the package, its easy

Have you tried getting a shop to patch it, I have a set of low profiles and what they did instead of plug it put a patch on the inside of the tire over the hole, I had it done to mine since the plug wasn't stopping the leak, I'm not sure of the cause because i have a road hazard plan with my tires.
