ATTENTION GEAR HEADS/MECHANICS: I need your help on my noise problem
Ok I mentioned my noise problem in another thread about a knocking sound coming from under the car.
Ok, I REALLY need your help on this next noise because I'm more worried about this one because it sounds more serious:
Once again, I was caught in a torential rainstorm....and after I passed through a big puddle.....my transmission was making a deep grinding sound....it sounded like it didn't want to go into the next gear. I have an 01 Camry with auto-trans. by the way.
Also, that knocking sound becomes very frequent, almost continous.
But after I drive for awhile without going through puddles, both noises go away.

yeah, 38k miles on it........I am no doubt taking it to the dealer, but the reason I'm asking is because I like to have an idea of whats wrong with my car before I take it in......ya know?
I have heard that noise with my 00 Camry when going through an unavoidable puddle. I have also heard it im my wifes 2002 Durango. Prior to the Camry I owned a lot of GM cars and would hear it. The noise always goes away after your out of the puddle. I bet the computer gets confused due to the mass and pressure of the puddle. The computer doesn't know what to tell the transmission. One moment it is on smooth pavement, next it is feeling resistance. Anyway, if you are under the warranty take it in, but let us all know what they tell you!! As far as the knocking you are hearing... since you are at the dealer let them look at it! I just brought mine in becuase I heard rattling when going over small bumps. It that what you are hearing? Anyway, they replaced the right rear control arm. A week later I heard noise from the front. It turned out to be loose bumper supports. The dealer tightened them. The car is again rattle free excpet for that noise in the driver's side door!
Look........In Houston, it's unavoidable......when it rains, the whole road is a puddle.
I'm with DJ on this one...just yesterday..for me to go back home, i had to pass at least 10 inches of water......i didn't brake (one shouldn't brake when water is that high).....just put it in 2 (did the od off) and drive....thanfully i didn't wait..cus' i heard water level went higher at nigth!
DJ: which dealership are you taking your car to. Champion Toyota (formerly Jay Marks) takes longer than star toyota for diagonising prob's.

Champoion is more geared towards the modders (don't know but if your've seen their head mechanic or tech drives a ncie supra, and others there have IS300's, celica, etc. They even have a jay marks magazine that they sell for 2 bucks...(all aftermarket stuff for sale!!!).
