Question need some help please!!

ok my car has started leaking oil really bad. 1 drop every 3 seconds and a puddle accumulates very quickly.

i took it in to one of my truted mechanics today to see what the problem is.

heres what he said"

there look to be oil comming from the rear cam (towards rear of car) and thats the main oil leak. there is a small oil leak from the oil pan gasket too.(i already knew that) he said the cam seals would need to be replaced along with the crank seal. also the timing belt would need replacement. he said there was oil on the timing belt and it would deteriorate and would need to be replaced. all this will cost $516 with labor. with a $50 discount for being a student. So it would be like $466 to fix my damn oil leak.

does all this maKE SENSE? i have no idea what a cam is, i have heard these seals go bad. this is normal right? also a new oil pan gasket should be cheap. where is the timing belt?

this is alot of money that i dont want to spend right now. i should just get a brand new jdm 3s-ge and be done with it. anybody have a clue as to how much they run? and how much HP?

i wanna keep this car but really would like a new engine a crap. i keep fixing stuff and could have gotten a better engine by now.

can someone answer my questions? i am feeling stressed out. i need to know if im getting ripped!

thanks guys!

There is no gasket on the oil pan. Toyota uses FIPK (some kinda sealant).

Which crank seal is he talking about? Front or rear?

Theres a cam seal behind the cam gear / pulley. It seals around the camshaft and bearing cap.

The timing belt is on the left side of the engine. Theres a plastic cover over it.

Pic of timing belt:

All he is saying does make sense, I already had exactly the same problem in the past, timing belt also needs to be replaced in such a case. What I think though is that he might be charging a little bit too much... You could perhaps try to find someone who could do it for less.
What I can say is that I wouldn't advise you to do this kind of work yourslef if you don't have good skills in mechanics, especially concerning the timing belt.

Good luck !
