Camry engine power

Hi, I am contemplating to get a new Camry but was told by a colleague that the engine power "deteriorates" after four to five years. Is there any truth to this ? What gives ? Thanks for your inputs

Hi oldman, thanks for your reassurance ! The engine is the 5s-fe, not the v6 in this case.

if you're buying one brand new, test drive both the V6 and I4,

the 5sfe guys seem to always want more power (since weight/hp ratio is so high)

its probably worth the extra $$

5sfe is a pretty damn reliable engine, its been tried tested and true for 10 years

Oldman, thanks again. I think you have it there on the weight/power ratio. But I'm not that fussy, as long as the engine is reliable as you mentioned.

I've seen a used v6 and it looks great. But I was suspicious of the low mileage. Was told by an experienced Toyota mechanic that the digital meter can be adjusted. Sheeesh ! Is there any way to verify if the meter has been tampered with ?

you could get a carfax report (i think that's what its called)

or you could ask the owner for service records, if the service records for the current mileage is wayyyy back, then it might be suspicious

maybe if you brought it in to a dealership they might be able to help you, i don't know anything about digital meters, i hate them myself
