Im still working on my camry project but im looking for a spare car to use for work and school. I found a 1990 5spd Integra GS and a 92 5spd Camry both in the 2500 range.
The integra needs some body work and it has some minor mods...i.e: x drilled rotors, exhaust, sounds, etc. It also has 4 disc brakes, sunroof, and a cracked windshield.
Im not too familiar with hondas but i was wondering if you guys had any experiences with this car. Problems, defects, etc.
The 5spd camry is pritty much stock which also needs some minor body work. If i do get this car i'd probly swap in my old turbo kit.
Both cars have unknown mileage.
I was about to get a 94 Camaro from this old couple. But they already sold it for 2300 cuz the a/c wasnt working. I
Im kinda stuck in the middle. I want the camry cuz im familiar with everything, its a 5spd, i have my old turbo kit and I could interchange parts.
The integra is also nice...cuz its different. It has minor mods,4disc brks, sunroof, sounds. I also read about the vtec head swap. I wanna try working on a different car.
Tough choice dude. One thing to look at though is with the Integra you will have so many more options for parts and upgrades than the camry, yet the cam is more unique, etc. You can just swap in a b18c motor in the acura and start from there. My friend did that with his 93 integra( samge gen as the 90). Its clean and fast-low 14's to high 13's (his is modded though). The integra will be easier and cheaper to make faster, yet the camry would be more of a challenge and maybe more rewarding for you. There is pros and cons to both. I would say get what you feel is right.
Good luck.

I would go with the Integra if you are looking for more of a fun/performance oriented car. Hondas are very reliable also and I think the old gen integras are really nice cars and now becoming pretty rare to see hooked up because of their age.
I say integra too....its a reliable car, and more fun, and alot easier to fix up, I like hondas and dont really know why some people hate hondas...I like diffreent models of cars of different brand....i'm not predjuice :p
Personally, I'd look at previous owners. The integra is already modified so you can safely assume that it has seen some abuse. Maybe the same goes for the Camry, but you don't want to buy someone else's problems. Good luck.
Well, I test drove the integra today...and i was dissapointed. It wasn't worth the price he was asking for. Plus it looked like he didnt know much about his car.
I asked him what kind of mods were done. He said he only put sounds and white guage faces. He even told me it was pritty fast because its and i quote: "Its a "D...O...H...C" engine" Plus a kevlar racing clutch was installed 2yrs ago when he got the car.
Anyways,..I popped the hood and it was dirty as hell. Pritty much stock but he had an aftermarket header which he didnt know about. I started up the car and i noticed there was some problems with the idle. I figured it was a vaccuum leak or the tps sensor was jacked up. He even showed me a mcgyver technique where i have to unplug the tps plug several times so it wouldn't idle high
At this point my asking price went lower and lower. The interior and exterior were neglected. Lots of mechanical and cosmetic damages.
At last i decided to have a test drive. He kinda hesitated then he warned me that the front right brakes were leaking. I was thinking wtf?! But nonetheless I decided to take it for a spin.
I went slow and i noticed the clutch was bad...the release was too high. I could even feel it slipping. As i shifted it was kind of odd because it seemed like it had a short shifter in it. The throws were really short. Is this modified or do integras have close gear ratios?
Anyway...I cruise at 40 observed everything in the car. I really liked the sunroof *first time the sound system was alright too. Up ahead i decided bust a U and head back. I was like holy sh*t!" I just noticed how the brakes were really f*cked. The pedal was already on the floor and it took some time slowing down.
I drove back slowly and imagined how stupid it would be to waste my hard earned money on this car. I told the guy i'd call him back. All in all it seemed like the owner didnt really care about the car. He should at least clean it up and make it presentable to the buyer. You guys were right about "buying someone else's problems"
None the less I would still get a 2nd gen integra if it was in good working condition. Its a nice fun car to drive. If i ever do find another one it'll be my beater project car
I'd go with the Camry.
...reasons being A. Its reliable. B. If you already got a same gen Camry project one of the two will be come a great source of parts in the future.
