ok, I dont necessarily consider this a problem but I want to know why my car is like this.
I dont know if your guys cars are the same, thats what I want to know. I've had my car for 2 years and never really thought much of it, but I figure Id find out anyways. I live like 2 blocks from the onramp of the highway, so when I leave in the morning the car is still cold getting onto the highway, it wont shift into overdrive until the temperature reaches 1/3 or the guage or half normal operating temperature. Is this normal or can it be disabled, or overridden somehow? Its annoying, when you get on the highway people get up your ass becasue your revving the engine at 3000 rpm, cold and not being able to go more than 45-50 mph without revving the engine up too high.
but why do they do it? if you need the car to shift into overdrive right away it wont, you end up beating it when its cold. I know of a lot of nifty saftey options toyota put into their cars (like auto trans in first gear shifting into second on its own at redline) but this once makes no sense.
to warm the car up of course... shouldn't be a problem when the oil's cold you get high oil psi anyways.. if it bothers you then just warm up the car for 5 mins before driving it.
