I want to get my car painted, but I've heard some bad stories about people's newly painted cars. I've heard of the paint peeling off shortly after being painted, 2 or 3 months, and things like that.

I was thinking of just going to MAACO or a local body shop, but I'm still worried I will not get my moneys worth. I was planning on paying top dollar to get a quality paint job, but I before I do, I just want some input from you all on how your previous paint jobs have turned out.

Thank you,
NonSense

i had my old car painted at MAACO a long time ago. worst job i've ever seen. they have those specials on for like $300, is that what caught your eye? well, their prep work is almost nil. they do a crappy job of taping up the edges so you get paint on some of your trim. they don't bother removing any parts so you may see some of the old paint underneath as well.

prep work is what makes a good paint job.

i wouldn't bother with cheap paint jobs. if you really care about your car - don't do it. save your money up and get a quality job done. expect to pay AT LEAST $2000 Canadian for a good job.

ask around for referrals from other people that have had paint jobs. check out the shops work on other peoples cars. seeing is believing. sometimes the small places with the experienced painters are the best places to go - not the franchised shops with the snazzy jingles in their commercials.

$2,000!!! That is a lot of money. While reading your reply, I was expecting you to say around $600. I don't think I will even bother.

Yes, the $259 USD special caught my eye. What a pain!

so maybe around a grand is what you can expect to pay. ask your friends if they know someone. it's all about the hookups...

So every maaco has been known to have crapppy paint jobs? I was considering going there this weekend to get my trunk piece (gen3) painted body color like some of the members on the board. Can they fill in the holes for my emblems so its smooth?

macco.. i dunno man i wouldnt advise anyone to take there car to Macco if they loved there car... Like what Rayray said.. just go by word of mouth for the best bodyshop out there if your doing a compete paint job or just painting parts of your car .. you want to do it right.. the reason why you heard all those horror stories is that the car was not preped right at the bodyshop OR they just used cheap Quality paint or clearcoat.
