unknown plug...

i appreciate the help from you guys... i have a 98 camry v6... and i kinda messed up a plug. if you are looking at the engine from the front of the car, the plug would be located under the diagnosic input on the left side near the firewall. the plug has a pretty big hose going in it and goes into the intake manifold. inside the plug is a spring and a tiny red or orange rod in the middle. When i took it out, the rod fell out and i cant find it. Can someone help me identify what this plug is... and is it ok to just plug it in without the spring and the rod? Thanks for your help.

where does the hose come from? Sounds like its part of your emissions system if it goes back to your intake. Does it go to your intake manifold or your plenum.

sounds to me kinda like your pcv valve. The little rod is probably important, usually that setup is a check valve which you need to maintain pressure.

your pcv valve is located on your valve cover. It has a hose that goes from it to the your plenum just after your throttle body.

The hose isn't that big though, so maybe that isn't it. PCV hoses are usually 3/8" I think.
