Someone please help me. I installed indiglo gauges in my 2000 camry but now my gas/temperature gauge has stopped working. All of the other gauges work fine.
What could be the problem?!?! I am so worried!

i checked that. i pulled out the plug and put it in three times. maybe i'm just stupid, but how long does it take the temperature gauge to move when you turn on the car? i drove for a good fifteen minutes and it never moved.
and as far as my fuel gauge, when i changed my gauges, my fuel tank was banging "E" so I went to the gas station and filled up, but it never moved. was it supposed to? do i have to put the needle to the "F" mark myself to reset it?

next .. take them out again.. and look carefully if the needle is hitting on anything.. i had the same problem on my Gen 3.. at first i thought i had low gas also and i took them out and found that there was something cought on the needle.. one of the screws were getting cought right next to the needle.. and also.. the temp guage was the same.. i noticed when i turn on the engine that it slowly moves up from cold to the middle.. but however i noticed that it didnt' go all the way up to the middle .. even on a hot summer day .. it should have gone up .. so i started to freak.. driving on the highway at 40mph .. i didn't know waht to do so i pulled off to the next exit .. and turn off the car.. and restarted it it started moving up but not all the way .. so i found that it was the same problem on the temp guage ..
long story short..
check them.. maybe something like a screw or plastic is getting tangled..
hmm.. I was also considering putting Idiglos in my car (97) in a few weeks... just curious as to how difficult it is to do on your own...is there alot of wiring that needs to be done ? or should I just get it done proffesionally.
lots of ppl are doing it themselves.. just gotta becareful not to cross the wrong wire.. but ask around here for some advise before you start to install it..
darn....i should of taken pix when i was installing mine. I have installed a lot of stuff in my car already. I dont think there is one plastic panel that hasnt been removed by me in my car.
Anyways. I have a 99 so i dont kno about the rest. I'll describe how to do it for a 99. (97-01 should be same)
First off...disclaimer.
I would advise you to be careful, note im not responsible if you are a moron and snap anything in half. Im just telling you guys what i did to install my indiglows. Oh yea, by the way this is all by memory since i did it about half an year ago but most info should be pretty accurate.
1) Look at where the gauges are....there is a clear piece of plastic/ plexi covering it. Feel around on the underside of the top of the gauge cluster. Tthere should be 2 screws. Take out.
2) Now is actually the hardest part....or it was for me at least. You gotta pull out the piece of plastic surrounding the gauge cluster, clock, and that vent thingy on the side. It was a bitch to take off. I ended up snappin off one of the plastic clamps on accident, but it didnt make much of a difference since its stuck in there so tight. Note: there are clips at the two ends of the plastic....ends as in left side of the vent thing and right side of the clock.
3) Once you get it removed. If i remember correctly, there are 4 screws surrounding the gauge cluster. Remove them. DONT LOSE OR DROP ANY SCREWS.....YES ITS BAD, AND YES IT HAPPEND TO ME =p.
4) Once those 3 screws are out then the cluster should pull out pretty effortlessly.
5) There are 3 sets of bundles wires on the bak of the cluster. Pull them out.
6) there you will see the clear plastic piece covering the gauges. There should be little clips holding them in on the sides. Carefully open the gaugs and dont pull too hard on the little clips or they probably will break on you.
7) My memory is kinda unclear on this step, but i think at this step you should see the bare and exposed gauges.
There are 2 screws on each gague. Do one gauge at a time and do the gas/temp last. The speed and rpm are easy, but the temp/gas is tricky.
8) Once you get the speed and rpm on....pretty effortless. Remember tho, dont EVER put too much force on the needles or you might break the motors in the back....then it will cost you and assload to replace.
Now the tricky part....the gas/temp this is where a lot of people screw up.
First remember where the temp needle is sitting before you pull it out. Just an approximation is fine. Or you can bust out the pencil and protractor if you wish.
Remove the temp needle from the black circular piece of plastic in the center. Going very very SLOWLY and CAREFULLY pull it upwards. Do NOT pull on the needle. PULL ONLY from the center piece.
I used 2 screwdrivers to nudge it upwards. You can do whaterver you wish. Once that needle is out you can easily slide in the indiglow plate over the gas needle. After you have done so, put the screws back in and then put the temp needle back where it was.
9) Now for the power. I pulled off one of the unnecessary bulbs on the gauge cluster and i soldered the leads of the indglow inverter to it. Get a multimeter to make sure you get the right polariry or the indiglows arent going to turn on.
10) Now you need to locate the switch somewhere and then put the panel back together the way you took it apart and youre done. By the way test it and turn on before you put it back together. Dont be like me and have to take the whole dash apart after finding out that i had the wrong polarity.
Ok, i know you guys will have a few questions.
Here are a few Q/A's
Q: Why did i use the lead on the bulbs for the power on the indiglow inverter.
A: The dash lights turn on/off depending if the headlights are on or off. So if i wired it directly to the 12v batt then the indiglows would always be on. I wired it to the gauge cluster so it would only be on when i turn on the headlights are on.
Q:Why is the grammar/spelling/punctuation wrong or some stuff might not make sense?
A: I try to keep it correct, but I'm typing this whole thing up as i can remember it. And also im completeing it in less than 10min.
Q: Why did i take off the temp needle instead of the gas?
A: If the temp needle resides a bit higher or lower because you might of put it back slightly off......its not that big of a problem. You will just get used to where it is sitting. However, if the gas needle is off....then you are kinda screwed, I think you guys all know what i mean.
Q: Where do i mount the switch and interver?
A: I custom fabricated the switch plate myself....the inverter i just tucked away somewhere.
Q: If you guys have any questions. Feel free to ask. If anyone wants. I can take some pics of my setup.

if your fuel gauge was on E, it might just be stuck... gently turn the arrow so it points somewhere mid range. the fuel gauge will automatically turn to the correct setting when you turn on your car if its really just stuck. ditto for the temp gauge.

Man, you are having some serious troubles with this.
Are the needles not moving or is it the indiglos?
JeffTsai gave some pretty through instrustions, just some things to remember and check
make sure all of the indiglos are plugged in. I had put mine together and accidently disconnected my tach putting it back and didn't realize it until after I put everything back together.
The plugs in the back of the guage cluster go in Blue behind the Fuel/Temp guage, White behind the Speedo, and Brown behind the Tach.
where did you screw the ground wire in? I connected the ground wire to the screw that said GRND on the back of the guages.

I'm sorry that I forgot to mention but it was the needle that I meant isn't working. The needle on the temp gauge doesn't move when the car turns on, or even after I drive for fifteen minutes. I can move the needle through the full range from H to C so I don't think anything is stuck but it just doesn't move on its own. When I place the needle somewhere along the gauge, the needle just slowly slides back down to "C."
As for the fuel, I fulled my tank to max capacity and then placed the fuel needle by the "F" mark and I could swear that the needle moved above and beyond the "F" by itself, even before I turned on the car. Is this supposed to happen?
I know you guys say to calm down but I would feel so stupid if I broke my gauges trying to install something so trivial. Please help!
Oh, and I never took off my needles. I just slipped all the glo gauges over them.
Edit: Ok guys, now I'm fucking screwed. My check engine light is on. I feel like shooting myself

maybe your needle is loose? did you try pressing down the needle to make sure its down all the way? the fuel gauge will go past F so dont worry about that. but NOT before you turn on your car. wait and see if your fuel gauge goes down after 100 miles or so. if it does, something is wrong with your needle on the temp gauge. if it doesnt work, your wiring is messed up in the back probably.
and Tercel asked a good question. did you pull the needles off when you installed them?

no, i never took off the gauges. i just slipped them on over the old ones. i was pretty careful but since the temp/fuel gauge had two needles i had to use a bit of force. i don't know if this could have caused a problem.
also, this doesn't explain why my "check engine" light came on. what gives? i tried pressing in the gauges but nothing works. and on my fuel gauge, when i put the needle halfway, the needle travels up passed "F" even when the car is off. is my camry possessed by the d.i.y demons? what should i try next?
