i posted recently but now I got pictures. Can someone tell me what the highlighted yellow arrow in the picture is? Im guessing it is the pcv valve but when I broke it, I wasnt certain that it is. anyways, my car now smokes really bad... not a good sight. Can someone confirm it is the pcv valve or if not, tell me what this plug is? its a 98 camry v6. thanks for your help.
hey oldman, how did you make it show up like a automatic picture, like from this post? do you have to upload to your album or something and where do you get the image link?
well, a long story short, i needed to change the pcv valve. i tried taking that off, but the cap broke off. there was a spring and a tiny rod in the middle... and it fell out and i never found the rod. I just plugged it back in without the rod and the spring. the smoke seems to be whiteish, a little gray maybe. i cant really tell. i drove it around today, do you think that will cause any damage to the car? the smoke tends to be really heavy during startups, like maybe from a red light or stop sign. i appreciate all the help.
Well, the PCV valve is supposed to be a one-way valve activated by pressure in the valve cover; so it seems to me if you lost the actual valve mechanism you're now getting just a straight shot of intake manifold gasses into the valve area, as well as valve gasses (maybe oil) into the intake area, all depending on where there's more pressure. I'd get a new one quick.
