so is the burien turbo literally a bolt on kit?

as in you do not need to buy anything else at all except for the kit?

does it really only take 6 hours like the webpage says?

i have tons of friends that know what they are doing when it comes to cars.........and i'm kinda wantin to do this.......

Anyone notice that on the first link 2drcam put up, it says that the kit is for 90-2000 Camrys? Its made for the 5SFE I thought, and the 87-91 Cams are 3SFE. They have the same head I guess, right? And if they do, then why didnt they say 87-2000 Camrys? Or was it just a typo?

see i want a turbo too, but i want around 300hp at the wheels, and i know my internals couldn't handle that kind of power yet...but i'm doing some research to see what i would need to beef up before putting a turbo on the engine, and i'm not about to ask questions because i know the posts are out there and i don't want to get flammed anymore

I noticed that neither kit comes with an ECU. If the stock Camry ECU can't handle boost readings, how will it know what's going on?

The Burien Toyota kit literally does bolt on. However, if you plan on increasing boost later, I would recommend the metal head gasket and ARP head studs they sell as well. Stock head bolts have shown to stretch under boost. It comes with a turbo Mr2 map sensor to replace the 5S-fe sensor so the computer can read the boost.

The biggest problem I had with the kit was relocating the oil dipstick. The original position brings it up right under the downpipe. I had to bent it upward, and in doing so I put a kink it the tube and the stick would not go all the way to the crankcase. I cut the stick in the mean time as a temporary fix (to keep oil from spewing out of the dipstick tube). I purchased a new dipstick tube and dipstick. I heated the tube with a torch and bent it with a spring bender to the angle I needed. Pulled out the old one and inserted the new one (it is just pressed into the block).

The kit relocates one 02 sensor to the down pipe, but does not relocate the other. This is something the exhaust shop should be able to handle for you. My Greddy exhaust was for the V6 and already had a spot for the second O2 sensor (directly behind the cat).

You should also plan on spending some money at the exhaust shop to mate the downpipe to the exhaust.

Other than that, I installed the kit in the parking lot of my apartments with a basic tool kit and a torque wrench (which saved my butt on those exhaust bolts).

I even installed the TRD boost gauge and Greddy turbo timer myself. If anyone needs any help in these areas, hit me up

"Dyno tests showed an increase of 45.4 front wheel horsepower."

tests show auto camry's with about 90 hp at the wheels... so 135 hp doesn't seem so great.

"We tested at 5 pounds of boost. This is about what we expected and should put close to 190 hp at the crank."

ok so let's do some math here 90/125=.72
.72*190=137... mmm great :\

heh, Im looking for 330 at the crank, thats like 280 at the wheels? I wanna start off at 300 at the crank tho, dont wanna change the internals YET - wanna run low boost for a while, then upgrade the internals, and increase the boost

What your really doing is tricking the ecu by swapping the map sensor.

For a given amount of air (density) the output voltage on the MR2 Turbo map sensor is lower then the stock map sensor.

So the ecu thinks everything is cool and for all its concerned it doesn't know that your boosting.

Heres a comparison of map sensors:

http://www.vanirtech.com/gmmap.pdf

1 bar map is for n/a engines not 1 bar of boost like most ppl think.
