v6 struts on an i4

Once again, Im still in the process of getting that abandoned 2nd gen in my name (gota wait 90 days), and I wa wantin to swap out the struts in it to replace my blown ones (for the time bein). Other than it being higher than mine, will the v6 struts bolt up to my i4? I can always cut a spring off to give the stock ride height, although I dont want to (and probably wont) considering thats what phucked up my struts in the first place. Im thinkin only difference wud be ride height, anyone else think different (Im hoping not )

And on that note, if Im wantin to lower my car on stock struts, Ive heard that when u replace the strut cartridges, u gotta drill a hole in the bottom of it to releave pressure. How much pressure is it under? Cuz if it aint a whole lot, i can just take out a lil bit and weld the whole back up, that way I dont blow em on all the pressure. and YES, i know this is ghetto, but Ive made a vow not to put nemore money into this Cam, so Im experimenting with new ideas...

I think the struts are the same on both, but the springs are different.

Drilling a hole in the bottom of the strut to relieve pressure is for converting sealed struts to non-sealed struts.

Did you checkout the link I posted in the other thread of yours?

Yes, the struts are the same. It is only the front springs that are different to handle the extra weight of the V6. ...and if you do it right there is nothing wrong with cutting off a coil or so.

88LE: Ya, i saw that post u put up, but it says to relieve extra pressure from the nitrogen and oil. But I didnt see anything about how much pressure it will relieve. You see what Im sayin? If I drill out a hole, then weld it back, will that let out all the oil and nitro to give me a sort-of decent ride, or can I just relieve some pressure, weld it back, then when I lower my car it will be at about the same pressure it was at before I drilled the hole in it. You see what Im sayin?

All the pressure will be gone if you drill a hole through the bottom of the strut.

The whole purpose to drilling a hole is to relieve the pressure before you cut off the top and covert it into a non-sealed strut.

With a non-sealed strut you just undo the nut on top of the strut, dump out the stock internals, place your new strut cartridge into the strut housing, and reinstall the nut.

Won't work.

Once you drill a hole the gas and oil is gunna leak out.

You got 3 choices.

1. Use the struts as is and don't modify em.

2. Convert them into non-sealed struts and use Tokico cartridges.

3. Get full aftermarket struts (KYB GR-2).
