USA Shutting off headlights with engine running?

Hello out there! As my screen name suggests,I like trout fishing. Here's my dilemma relating to this!On those cold early Spring mornings I often get to the river before it is light enough to start fishing.I like to sit in the car for a little while with the heater running until it gets light enough.Unfortunately the GEN 4.5 2000 LE I4 Camry that I just picked up will not allow me to shut off the headlights in the dark with the engine running. The headlights shining on the water will spook the fish and my parking spot is such that the car HAS to face the river!Any suggestions on this?Maybe disabling the outside light sensor?
I am talking about the actual headlights, not the daytime running lights which are pretty dim and probably not bright enough to bother the fish.On this car the headlights come on in the dark with the engine running no matter which of the 3 available positions that the headlight switch is set to.My thanks to toyomoho for the info that he provided below. It worked!

Is it the actual low beams or are they the DRL's? You should be able to turn them off, there should be a switch on the left of the steering column where they can be set to "off".

Geoff
i have the same car as him, and I can't switch it to off either
it's always automatic or upscaled (as in drl to low beams, but never from low beams to drl or off)

Try turning off the engine setting the parking brake and restarting the engine.
If this works, releasing parking brake will turn on the daytime lights again.

That is odd, I know that Canadian cars can't have the DRL's shut off, but I've seen several Gen 4.5 cars around here that don't have lights on during the day.

This is a safety feature so trout will not choke with your exhaust fumes.

Shut the engine and enjoy uncontaminated nature!
