We love our Gen2 87 FWD Camry wagon. It is reliable, economical to own & operate, spacious, and provides wonderful visibility (no blind spots). We would love to buy two more with all the latest significant safety improvements.
Unfortunately, Toyota has chosen not to market the majority of their wagons in the US and instead has offered an excess of SUV models, which are of no interest to us.
After reading about the redesigned Matrix and the new Venza (high-ground clearance hatchback) I guess we will give serious consideration to the following models:
2009 Hyundai Elantra Touring - more interior space than Matrix or Mazda3 5-door plus: Side curtains, 4-wheel disc, ABS, EBD, ESC, & Active head restraints.
I am leasing 2007 Honda Fit right now;
I most liked 1979-82 Corona wagon and 1975-1983 Corolla wagon;
I used to own 1979 Supra 5 speed from 1992 to 2005
If you like Toyota quality & reliability but the Matrix and Venza are not exactly what you had in mind, perhaps one of the following models may interest you.
If one of these models interests you, please contact Toyota. Perhaps if they receive sufficient consumer demand, they'll consider offering one of these current wagons to the US market.
they had a Camry Wagon for the '97-'01 model, but they never brought it over to the US...still the '92-'96 Camry Wagon's are really good, my mom has one right now & it's actually pretty good.
In 1985 we bought a new Tercel station wagon. It wound up being a part of our family for 14 years /160,000 miles. It made 2 trips across the US, as well as lots of places in between. We still miss that car and wish that Toyota offered a station wagon --however, a wagon more along the size of the Camry, not the Matrix.
