"Check Engine" light help needed

I have a friend with a '94 Camry 4-cylinder who had the starter rebuilt today. Now the "Check Engine" light is on.

I believe the battery was disconnected during the process of checking out what was wrong with the car. Is that (disconnecting the battery terminals) the reason why the "Check Engine" light is now on? If so, what needs to happen before the light goes back out? Will just driving the car a few days (x number of on-off cycles) do it?

Thanks for the help!

i don't think unplugging the battery would trigger the cel to go off, i suggest going to kragen or whatever and getting the code pulled

although a certain number of cyles would turn it off if the problem isn't there anymore

you can try resetting the ecu (unplugging the battery for a few minutes) and the cel will probably come back on

get the code pulled

you can check for DTC's yourself with a paperclip, pen, and paper.
maybe the ignition was switched to the on position when a sensor circuit was disconnected. if you clear the code and it doesnt come back then thats prolly what happened.

what code are you guys talking about?

Also, you can pull the batt for a few min. And put it back on as someone else mention earlier in the post. Thats what I do and it usually fixes it. However, if it goes out after you reset then comes back a while later then you proabably want to take your car to get it checked.
