Question new neon lights

i got these neon lights as a gift from my buddy back in japan. and i want to install them. the problem is that the neon lights doesn't have those adaptor plugs taht plugs into the 12v socket, it came with two wires, one black, and one red.
so i was wondering how am i suppose to install these? i have a feeling that i will have to take the center console out to hook these up...
also there are some figures on the back of the box:
DC12v
50mA
0.6W
it's in japanese, and i have no clue of what it's saying...
so does that mean i ahve to find someplace that will provide me with those power ratings?

thx for any replies

and i have a 94 v6 LE....if that helps

try using a battery with 12v to see if it works.
9v batt might even work. if it does, you'll either have to solder or make some sort of connector from a 12v source (u decide where)
the 12v cigarette lighter plug might be good option.
automotive store prolly carries the 12v plug.

the figures basically mean that it requires 12Volts DC to run, draws 50mA, and uses 0.6W. To wire it up just get strip the black and red wires back a bit, try them on your car battery terminals and determine which is +ve and which is -ve. generally the black wire should be the negative wire. you then have a few options, 1 either going to your local automotive retailer and buying cigarette plug and wiring it into that or wiring it into a pre-exisiting circuit, or running separate wires from the battery into the car.

if you are plannin on running the neons of the ciggy socket, then i wouldn't reccommend running alot off them....over here we have roadside assistance program we can sign up to and one time when they came out the help me they told me about a few instances where some guys had run one too many neons off the cigarrette socket and caused a fire in their cars because they overloaded the circuit. so plan what you do first....either way it should be quite a breeze installing them. if you choose the ciggy socket method should take 5 mins max. ps if you can use heat shrink to cover the soldered parts on the wires...u can use electrical tape but heatshrimking is better....

all the best

^ that shouldn't really be....there's still a fuse that's connected to the cig socket....too many neons may blow the fuse, but that's what its for....

If you pull off the bezel around the radio, which prys off from the bottom, then you can solder into the wires on the 12v cig socket. it, atlest on my 92, is only on when the car is on. i have a bar right under the stearing column and under the passanger side dash area. i also have a bar up under the front seats, toward the back. Each of them are run off of a switch mounted on the bezel around the radio. what i did was used a dremel tool too remove the support cross members inside the bezel to mount blue glowing switches from napa. over all it took about two hours and there were no problems. it would also be a good idea to go over to radioshake and get a 10amp inline fuse , just incase.. if you want to run a lot of neon, you can also get a relay at radioshake and run the signal wire to the cig liter socket or the antenna mast signal wire, and then the + to whatever gage wire from the battery with an inline fuse. that would only be necessary if you were running under carrage glow or something like that.

now what if i only want to run the neon at night? the only way to do this is to have a switch right?
whats the cleanist (spelling?) way to install the neon? cuz i dun want to have wires running everywhere

and since i only have one neon, i dont' need a inline fuse right?

usually the neon comes with a transformer box, and two tubes of neon. assuming it is set up like that, you can probable leave the transformer inside your dash, if you remove the 4 screws that holds you radio in place and zip tie it or tape it below where the radio goes. you can then solder in the wires to the cig wires and run an inline swich in your bezel. then from inside your dash area you should be able to run the neon just about anywhere, like inside the foot wells or you could drill small holes and run wires through them if you want them to be anywhere visable. if you run it inside the foot wells it should be very easy... good luck ------ edit: if you run anything off the cig wires, then they should already have a fuse in the fuse box. you do not have to run fuses at all really, it's just for redundancy.
