Gen6 2009 Camry - Questions?

Hello,

I am new here, but am no stranger to Toyota. I have worked as a Toyota IT Manager for over 4 years. At any rate, I just ordered my 2009 Camry SE V6. I posted the options below. I had two general questions about the car:

1. Will tinting the windows ruin the radio reception?
2. Will tinting the windows prevent the auto-dimming rear view mirror from working correctly?

My state only allows 35% tint.

Here are the option on my new 2009 just for an intro:

I'm assuming you have the antenna in the back glass like my 99 Camry. If so I tinted that window really dark and the reception didn't change one bit. I also have an auto dimming mirror and haven't noticed any difference in its operation.

You will be fine. I have 20% tint and a auto dimming mirror and have had no issues.

Same here - No problems.

I have 35% tint with Gentex-177 Auto-Dimming Mirror.

Excellent. Guess I will be having my windows tinted as soon as the car hits the ground.

Nah. The reception will be just as lousy with or without the tinting

(can you tell I wish the antenna were a bit better? It would probably also help if I was in a larger metro area )

Seriously, with the few people I've talked to that've done tinting with that type of antenna, they report no problems. Looks like a nice setup.

And the XM package-equipped Camrys I took for test-drives had perfect reception, btw. I just chose not to get that option.

I passed on XM radio. I don't feel like paying a monthly bill for radio. At the same time I do not spend much time in my car anymore.

Women's car? I would disagree with that.

Be a little careful with the tint. I hate to say it but I went with Johnson Ceramic tint (IR-40) Insulatir film on my 2008 Camry Hybrid. It was supposed to be specially designed for NOT interfering with radios ? Both AM radio AND XM radio reception was impacted by the tint ? The XM now cuts out when I go under tree's ? Did NOT do this prior to tint job. What a horrible place to locate the XM receiver inside under the back window ? On the AM radio deal I programmed several stations in prior to tint and after the tint 3 / 6 stations would no longer tune in. I am making an appt to get the film removed and will keep you posted. Non metallic films are not supposed to be an issue. If you don't care too much about AM and XM radio then go for it even with the hard core films. The Nav system and other electronic goodies seem to be un affected so far.
