ECU chips

Howdy,

Has anyone heard or tried an ECU upgrade for the 4sp auto tranny for a Gen5 V6 camry? Any performance ones out there? I was thinking along the lines of being able to hold rpms until you shift manually (via L, 2,etc.) even if it is before redline. Not to be confused with the stock setup but almost like a semi-auto setup. Whenever you shift up, it shifts up into that gear. Likewise, if you select 2nd or 3rd, it will not only hold that gear, but it will stay or start off in that gear selected.

One thing I've noticed (for a very long time...heck when I just bought the car 2 years ago) is that if you can upshift before the stock computer does ie. 5300rpm @ WOT, the car would be much quicker.

I'm also interested to hear of any true performance chips for the same non VVT-i V6 motor.

If anyone has any bites on this one or anything similar, please lemme know.

Thanks!

just tighten your throttle cable on you'll feel the car become more responsive...is that what you wanted?

Its not ECU chip. ECU doesn't control the tranny at all. It just control engine function: fuel, ignition and a few idiot lights.
What you looking at is a full tranny upgrade to semi-auto. Yea it'll be costly $3000-$5000 I'll say. I believe I've read something on the net about full race sequential tranny upgrade. You'll better do a manual swap.

Then how does the ECT button work?

The shift points are controlled by the ECU. I'm not sure about gen2 Camry's, but gen3 and up have ECT (Electronically Controlled Transmission)

Ok just checked Toyota manual, it is the same box. ECT equiped tranny got a different ECU with bigger plugs.
This acturally make it worse. Someone gotta specialize a chip for that ECU. Its already hard to get ECU chip not to mention ECT E CU
On another note, the ECT measure engine torque and adjust shift point accordingly. So you may not need to change anything. Maybe just change the torque converter?
You could probably connect switch directly to the solenoids and bypass the ECU for manual shifting. Don't know if that gonna grind the gears or not.

ECT changes the shift points. When its in PWR mode, it shifts at higher rpms.

Changing the torque converter will just give you a higher stall speed (rpm).

there is and ECU from www.jetchip.com i had one in my truck and the gain was noticeable...the only difference between my truck and my gen5 is that my truck had an inline upgrade (went between the ecu and the harness and changed the inputs for more power) the upgrade for the camry is one where you mail you ECU to jetchip and they reprogram it and then mail it back. i heard it takes about a week so i havent done it yet, but i plan to whenever i can go without my car for a week. plus it costs about $500 so it isnt cheap.
by the way SE V6 the gen5 V6s have a 5 speed auto trany, the 4 bangers have the 4 speed auto. just FYI.
if anyone does get this upgrade let us know cause if it works good i'll go without a car for a week for the power difference
