As I'm driving down the road, at about normal cruising speed, (25mph) and I feel this up and down vibration coming from the back of the car, what could cause this? What can I do to correct this problem, it's very irritating. Thanks.
There aren't any noises, it just shakes the hell out of me while I'm going down the road, it feels almost like it's got some kind of welfare hydros on it or something...and I'm pretty sure that there is no bodies in the trunk, I think we took those out after Halloween..lol.. Although I do think that it could be the shocks and a dent in the rims...when I bought the car, the dealer said something about one of the rims being dented...so yeah, that could be my problem.
I have the same exact problem on my '92 V6 LE. The right rear tire is ever so slightly out of round, and if you hit 25 MPH and STAY there for a few seconds, the vibration caused by the tire will cause the suspension system to resonate, making the vibration more noticeable.
Take the car to your tire store, have them put it up on a lift, and spin each tire, looking for the one that's out of round. If it's only out of round, it's probably not worth replacing it over that unless it's REALLY out of round. If the tread is separating from the tire, that's something much more serious, and that tire should be replaced immediately.
Thanks for your responses guys, but I really don't think it's the tires...mainly because I had just replaced my tires not too long ago (about 3-4 months). Is it possible that the tires could go "out of round" within that amount of time with "normal" driving? Thanks.
Yes, it's VERY possible for new tires to be slightly out of round. Occasionally, one doesn't even seat properly on the rim. The bead gets slightly tucked in and doesn't snap out to its proper position on the lip of the rim, pulling that section of the tire slightly out of round.
The tire could even have been good to start, but could have softer spots in the tread pattern due to uneven vulcanization of the rubber, causing the softer section to wear faster.
If you've ever locked up the brakes, you could easily have a flat spot.
Once in a while, a tire may occasionally be found that has an excess of the dry powdery mold release agent in it, and under certain conditions this lubricant can clump up into little balls and start rolling around in the tire. They'll continue to get larger as they scavenge the excess lubricant inside the tire, and eventually you'll have a handful of soft, crumbly rubber beads in the tire which can cause a balancing problem that will drive a tire tech nuts as the balance will change every time you spin the tire. I've seen this. I used to work at a tire store.
Get all the wheels and tires checked. If you're due for a rotate and balance, get them to run the tires on the balancer a second time to see if the balance changes. If it does, you may have the lubricant pellet problem, rare though it is.
The only thing that can cause your symptom is a problem with the wheels or tires, or MAYBE a bent axle or CV shaft.
i had the same problem.. i think my tire was out of round .. if you have ever hit a pot hole hard your tire probably has a blister causing a lump to stick out ...
i got new tires last week and now it rides so smooth
It's possible that I may have a bump on my tires, although I haven't really checked them out just yet. I plan on checking them today. If they seem okay, I'm going to take it somewhere and have them put it up on the rack and take a look at it as soon as possible....that shaking is so damned annoying!!!

Just put the car in park on a flat solid surface, secure the front with some rocks so it won't more, lift it with your car jack, then turn the rear wheel by hand! Look carefully and you will see if the tire is out of round.
BUT, if your tire is round, it can still have soft/hard spots. This you can only check with a "road force" machine at a shop. This a re balance machines that roll your tire against a drum that puts pressure on it, simulating a road, and find such things for ya.
Thanks, I've made an appointment to take it to a shop today, and I'm supposed to bring it in tomorrow morning...I jacked it up last night and spun the tires and the back passenger tire looked rather "wobbly"...so hopefully they can get that worked out for me...
Thanks warlock...so far I have taken it to the shop, and they said that the tires were fine, and the couldn't understand what the problem is...so I think what I'm just going to have to do, is just take my happy ass out there and check it all out myself...
What I would really like to do if I had time would be to tear the whole suspension system down and rebuild it...then I would have a smooth ride...but time and money are hard to come by these days...
I'll keep everyone up to date on what's up with it...and when I figure it out, I'll let you all know so if it happens to yours, you can fix it too...
