Red face RANT: Why do people make up engine designations? 5S-FTE 5S-FZE

come on!! they dont make turbo camrys and call the motor 5s-fte or rippmods supercharged camrys with a 5s-fze engine... NO!

when you turbo your motor its a turbocharged 5s-fe... nothing more.
when you supercharge... supercharged 5s-fe.

lol... sorry just got aggrevated for a sec...

Mainly because it's easier to put in the "t" in the engine code instead of writing "turbocharged %*****"

why DON'T you make up engine designations?

My s2000 has an F22Raptorfighterjetvtecpwnagec1 under the hood.

But on a serious note, its just an easy way to say what you've got without saying Hi, i have a Turbo 2.2L Four cylinder S (5th revision) block from toyota with linked DOHC and electronic fuel injection. Cause that information is the majority of what 5SFTE say after all.

you wouldnt see that to describe an mr2 or supra... 7m-gte only means one thing. as well as 3s-gte.
would it be right to call your motor a 7m or 3s-gte if you had a 7m or 3s-ge and put a turbo on that motor? no.

all i ask is can't we just accept that it isnt a real engine code and say turbo 5s-fe or supercharged 5s-fe?

i have no problem with my 2ZZ-GTE or my 5S-FTE however i do have a problem when people say 3ZZ referring to a stroked 2ZZ. a 3ZZ is a 1.6L POS engine in JDM

little bit of a thread revival, but i can see both sides. i dont say i have a 1mz-fze. i just say supercharged V6. but that may be due the othe fact that 90% of the people who ask wouldnt know what the engine codes means anyways...with or without the "Z" in it. so in essence its actually shorter since i dont have to say the code and then explain what the engine is.

well the 2zz/3zz problem is just stupidity... you cant rename a block just cause you feel like it... you can say stroked 2zz

about the turbo adding the "t" and supercharger adding the "z"... my opinion is that engines were made a certain way from the factory. and so named... now when you modify something with non-factory non-standard parts, it doesnt change the factory designation of the engine, it just adds soemthing. so you the proper thing to say would be for example.. aftermarket turbocharged 5s-fe... now we can shorten that to 5s-fe turbo. but not to 5s-fte. that T describes the factory head in that case... like 3s-ge turbo is WAY different from 3s-gte. right? the ge describes the head, just like the gte describes that head. the heads are different. way different.

i know... its just easy to say 5s-fte.. but its not proper.. thats my point. its not right. maybe im just being anal... oh well.

yeah you are being anal...ha ha ha but i wont hold it against you. but i do refer to my 6th gen celica as a 5S-FTE simply because im using all factory parts in the turbo system. stock 3S manifold and CT26 turbo.

lol same reason nissan guys say sr20det instead of turbocharged sr20de. nissan never made a turbo sr20, it's all aftermarket stuff.
