hey guys, i been talking to this shop that is a dismantler and also a shop. the shop specializes in Nissan Silvias and 240sx (JDM, and US versions of same car). well i was talking to him and he has a gen 3 5speed tranny, dont know yet if its from a v6 or i4. but im thinking v6, i saw two gen 3s in the back and one of them is a coupe v6 so im guessing it is a v6 speed. well we were talking and he asked me if i wanted to swap out my auto and swap in his 5speed tranny. i said heck ya i do. all in all we are going to do the swap, in a couple of weeks. so i will keep u guys updated on how it goes. i read the post about tranny swap questions, and i have more knowledge on what to look for now. im pretty sure i can get all the parts i need from the shop since he has the junked gen 3 there.
i cant wait till we start this project, ive been wanting a 5speed forever!
more info to come!

Good Luck with it, I have a 1996 Camry coupe 4cl with a 5speed, and its great!!! I didn't think that 6cl came with a 5 speed, I have the base camry model and it came with the 5 speed. You will absolutlly love it. Mine can burn out almost like a sports car, even though its a Camry. Good Luck, Any Questions just PM me
ok, he is going to charge me $850 for the swap. what do u guys think of the price? he is going to include everything i need:
tranny
interior parts
pedals
master cylinder
etc...
hope fully we can start on the swap next week
and of course i will have lots of pix

Damn thats insane, I want to get a hookup like that...
How many miles did that tranny see? And how did the last owner treat the car? That should help you determine if the price was right. If it is in decent condition, you got a steal.
damn man. thats how much my tranny with axles and mr2 rear hub cost alone. and then clutch and flywheel costs that much. cost me a little under 2gs with me doing the labor. that sucks
bad news...i was preparing my car for the swap, but no more 5speed swap due to a new project.
good news... i just picked up a 87 red RX-7 with many extras for only $500, it is in good conditon and sadly but true will be much funner to drive than the 5speed camry . i still love my camry but will now be paying a litttle more attention to the rx-7
