Question Oil Change

I have a 1992 Toyota Camry LE 2.2L I4. The car is due for an oil change in the next 47 miles. Can my car use synthenic oil? The only reason why I ask is because the car has been running on regular oil for a very long time since the last oil change. I'm might go to the local Jiffy Lube or Lube Pro and ask them to put on my K&N Performance Gold Oil filter instead of their generic piece of crap oil filter.

My main question is that is it okay for me to put in synthenic oil in my car. I don't want to get the sludge that one user posted about.

ok, if you had read up on the synthetic oil threads you'd know that yes you can make the change

BUT

your engine might start leaking oil/burning oil, the dino oil would have left stuff to "add" to the worn seals and such, synthetic will clean that all out, so its your decision, bit of a gamble for ya

I did read the posts about changing over to sythenic but I got scared when I saw about the sludge and stuff. So your saying I might burn sythenic oil if i get it done by Jiffy or Lube Pro? So should I stick with generic oil to pervent this from happening? I want this car to last as long as I can, I'm tight on money right now. Could I use the new stuff from castrol for max life for older cars?

I've got 163k miles with normal oil and no problems with the engine so far. How much of a difference, aside from the leaking/burning, would the switch to synthetic make?

What I might about being tight on money is that I can't buy a new car yet. I need this car to last!

If you're referring to me as the one user with the sludge, I'll tell ya that my issue was the problem gen4s have. AFAIK the 92s didn't have a problem. Different motor design. So, assuming the car's had regular oil changes I don't think you'd have a problem like me.

How many miles you have on the car, anyway?

Ive seen a lot of worse spots than that

Some of them on newer american trucks...geeze I have to psych myself up before trying to remove the filter.
