'00 Camry: check engine light!

I've already done plenty o' searches on this subject, but none match up specifically with what I need to know.

The C.E.L. stays on full-time, I believe due to some sort of sensor that the shop screwed up the last time I took it in. I just want the light to stay off (at least for a while, during an "important appointment" I have coming up).

Any way to just bypass the light and have it stay off? This might be way-impossible, I know: just thought I'd ask. If that's the case, then I make the trip back to the shop so they can diagnose what they did in the first place and fix the fool thing!

thanks,

disconnect a battery clamp and leave it off for several minutes then reclamp it. This will put it out for a period of time anywhere between a few minutes and forever. If it blinks on again, you have two choices, back to the shop or just buy your own cheapy scanner from harbor freight for $30 or 40 and try to diagnose it yourself. (The scanner also shuts off the CEL automatically, after it shows you the code)

^ What solidg said. Get the code read and report back here with the code. Also include what engine you have, how many miles on the car and what has been done to the car recently; especially since you said "I believe due to some sort of sensor that the shop screwed up the last time I took it in".

I have the same problem my 2000 Camry with 155,444 miles, CL Model 4cylender 2.2 California emissions. Had a leek in exhaust flex pipe. Replaced exhaust from mainifold with catalytic converter included. CEL came on shortly after. Scanner indicated rear oxygen sensor. shortly after CEL came on again replaced front oxygen sensor. Shortly after CEL came on again. Mechanic tested and suspected defective front O sensor and replaced. Shortly after CEL came on again. ????? Need some suggestions Please

Like posted above, get the code read and report back here with the code. Autozone and other auto parts stores will read the code for free. If you don't have Autozone in your area, call around to other auto parts stores and ask if they offer this free service.
