Unhappy New and used with problems!!!

Hello, new to this forum...just got a used '89 camry le from brother with less then 100K. It's better then i thought it would be...everything is almost new car feel and look with no dents or rust. No faded interior or what not.

Unfortunately it has two problem...

1) auto with a flashing O/D light (seems like it does not want to drop back into 1st gear SOMETIME only, causing it to move like a manual trying to start off in 4th gear). If I put it into L first and manual shift the auto tran into D it drives ok though...go figure.

2) none of the power window work. Zero...Nada. I've check the fuses and relays...I even replace the module on the driver side door to no avail. None of the powered window open.

I have driven this car for almost 3 months now and love it despite all of it's problem. Is there anyone out there who can help me on this issue?

That transmission thing I can't help you with, I really don't know much about the auto trany.

As for the windows, it is probally a fuse, a relay or a bad connection.

On my schematic (which is for an '87), you will have to check:
Fueses:
Gauge 15amp
FL ALT 80amp
FL AM1 ?amp
PWR CB 30amp

Relays:
power main relay
Power window relay

if it is your main power relay, power door locks and such won't work either, and if it is either the FL AM1 fues, FL ALT fues or Gauge fues a lot of stuff probably won't work so I am guessing it is the Power window relay. Make sure to check all the fuses because not all of them are in that fuse box

If it isn't any of these it is probably a bad connection somewhere in the circuit, which means its time to pull out your multimeter.

I don't know if the names of the fuses and relays are the same on the '89 and I can't show you where they all are right now but I hope this gives you some place to start.

Unhappy not working...

Checked all the fuses, 1) inside the car on the bottom driver side 2) behind the positive terminal on the battery 3) next to the firewall on the driver side...every last one of them check out fine.

Motor does not make a peep at all and like i said...all of the windows are effected. None of them even make one tiny little sound.

Checked all the wiring around the door thinking they may be pinch, but it is not that either. Everything else work, from power lock to all the bells and whistles. Just the power windows are effected.

Oh and if there is a relay...how the hell do you checked those bugger?!?

Check the level and condition of the tranny fluid. Gen2s have been known to have faulty selenoids too. Get a tranny shop to diagnose properly.

As for the windows...damn..I'm stumped. Do the windows open if you use the switch for that specific door?

I made a mistake before.

The "power main relay" doesn't affect power locks but is connected to the same line. Since your poewr locks work it narrows it down alot. I am willing to bet it is one of those two relays, only problem is I don't know where they are.

I think the "power main" is in the left pannel inside front of car and the "power window" relay is connected to the master window controls on the driver side. Just a guess though, its the best I can do for you.

Good Luck
