Location of ECU on Camry?

Where is the ECU located on my gen III Camry, anyway?

Somebody told me once that it was the box located under the center console between the seats, but I now know that this isn't true. That unit is the airbag deployment sensor, I'm pretty sure.

So where is the ECU?

I want to know because I want to get another ECU and send it off to be performance modded for my type of car and motor, and then put the original ECU in storage for safekeeping and as a backup. And I'll probably be doing the installation myself, and I'll probably have to pull it out of a junker myself.

cmjohnson, you're correct. The box btw the seats is the airbag brain/sensor.

The ECU is tucked behind the glovebox.

Where were you thinking of sending the ECU?

I'm still researching where to send the ECU to get it hotrodded.

Got any suggestions?

It's for a stock '92 V6 without ABS.

Toyota ECUs are not programmable.

You'll have to get aftermarket ECU with full manual tuning which is $$$$ and $.

Just get Apex'i SAFC instead, not like there's any advantage an aftermarket ECU will provide to V6 engine unless you're doing something really crazy.
