If it's only making a "click" when you try to start I can send you a repair kit cheap with easy pictures showing how to self repair it, about $10 shipping and all.

alright... went to the dealer and they said they dont sell the kit. they said that for these newer starters, you cant rebuild them. instead, they tried to sell me a rebuilt one. is the dealer full of s**t? or you really cant rebuild them anymore. btw, i got a 4th gen(98) camry v6.

If you can't rebuild it, where'd they get a rebuilt one?
Does your starter look like this?

If so, I can get the parts for you. Look at my profile, building alternators and starters is what I do for a living. There are newer starters that you have to replace the solenoid (switch) on, most you can remove a 5 sided inspection plate held on by 3 small bolts, inside you will see two copper plates called contacts. This is the most common problem after say 80-140k miles on the factory unit, 60-100k on a rebuilt.

If the starter repair kit doesn't work, which I think ought to get the job done, there's a place that rebuilds alternators and starters here in the city. It's on 6th, between Mission and Howard, or Howard and Folsom. They'll charge ~$120 for a rebuilt one, and unlike Kragen, no need to special order.
