replacing O2 sensor, remove pass. seat?

Hi all-

I was picking up a new fuel filter last night and have ordered some bosch O2 sensors, so i was paging through the hanes manual and it says to get to the O2 sensor plug by the cat you have to remove the passenger seat for the V6, wtf? The chiltons manual makes no mention of removing the passenger seat.

Since i am just splicing in some universal O2 sensors i can probably get around this. (No emmision testing in madison wi!)

Does anyone have any experience doing this?

thanks
-j

I got no clue, other wise I'd help out! Mabey you should try talking with a local Toyota-Tech to see if he could give you some pointers!

If I am picturing it right, the O2 sensor you speak of is directly behind the cat on the top side of the exhaust. I think you have to disconnect the exhaust at the cat and then remove the sensor.

Have you looked under the car and seen what the job entails, or just bought the parts?

thanks for the replies.

Ive crawled under the car and the O2 sensor by the cat is accessable, but i couldnt see the harness/plug. It was getting late and i didnt have much light under there. So when i checked out the hanes manual and they mentioned that to unplug the O2 sensor by the cat at you have to remove the front passenger seat to get to it. Sounded strange to me. either way im splicing in bosch aftermarket ones anyway, so getting to the plug isnt such a big deal, i can make the splice underneath. Although it would be nice to take it out completely and wire it up inside, its getting cold here in WI .

I was just wondering if anyone on the board had replaced the back O2 sensor and had any info.

this board has been a great help in finding info..

thanks!

YES - Take the seat out.

I have a 1995 camry V6 LE with about 130K on her. I replaced my O2's at 100K, I had to take the passenger seat out to get to where the harness clip was, then you can pull the whole harness through a little rubber gromet, unscrew the O2 sensor and pull the whole thing out of the car.

Taking the seat out is no big deal. I imagine if you tried long enough you can do it with the seat in, but easier to remove.

it is also better to do the splice so it sits on the inside of the car (near the connector) instead of underneath IMO so worth taking the seat out, 4 screws no biggie

thanks for the info!

Id much rather do the splice inside the car as it wont be exposed to the elements that way. Doesnt sound like it is to hard to remove the seat. Now ive just got to wait until the parts arrive, and hope for a warm day
