i'm guessing the shifting logic it uses when the ECT power button is engaged is now programmed in with the normal shifting logic in the gen 4's and 5's
It's computer controlled. When you stomp on the gas, the computer is supposed to be intuitive enough to adjust shift points at the optimum times. Some ppl have complained that the delay is too slow.
I liked being able to control that myself too and miss it
just noticed the other day when I was having some fun w/ a grand prix on the highway that if I'm already cruising at 140 or 150, when I mash the pedal, it doesn't drop down to 3rd, and just slowly accelerates.....but if I use the power button, then the car flies cuz its almost redlining in 3rd

I notice that by timing it just right, if I click it on for a split second, it'll kick out an extra 300 RPM on demand when I press it with the pedal mashed at about 4K rpm. Then I turn it off so the car still shifts smoothly. I can't stand when the ECT is in power and it shifts like a truck. Nothing against trucks, it just doesn't feel like it's healthy for my car.

the ECT button seems to limit me to about 500rpm shy of the redline all the time. oh yeah, FYI the fuel cut off seems to be about 200-400 rpm past the redline
