A/C acting strange...NEED HELP!

It is a 97 camry with the 2.2

Anyway...the a/c is not cooling so I hooked up a manifold gauge set and the numbers were within spec. Don't quote me on it but high side is 130 and low is 35. There are no leaks and you can see the refridgerant in the liquid line through the sight glass so the compressor is working. The pressure in the low line will drop to 20 if the engine is reved so there is suction in that line.

Expansion valves rarely fail but that is my best guess. However, since there is a pressure drop behind the firewall there should be cooling but there is none.

I had the system evacuated, purchased an OEM expansion valve, and will start with this thing soon.

What do you think in the problem?

The liquid IS expanding already but I can't find a problem anywhere else in the system.

Are you sure that air is getting across the evaporator and into the cabin of the vehicle? Is the evaporator getting cold?

I agree with VVTi - are you sure the air is going across the evaporator? Find the 2 AC lines under the hood, pass side, going to the evap. One is evap inlet, and it will have the TXV in it (which I think is not visible under the hood, but rather inside under the glove box). The other is evap outlet, which goes to the compressor. Both lines should be cold to the touch. If both are cold but your air isn't, then the doors in the air plenum aren't directing the air properly.

If the evap inlet is cold but the outlet is not, you have low freon. IMHO, your pressures are a little low, which also points to low freon.

Good luck,
Jeremy
