Does anyone know if the gen4 TRD short shifter is compatible with the gen3 cams? I was thinking of putting that on for my '93 SEV6.

One of our members, Darryl, is looking into doing the exact same for his Gen3 5spd V6. The word is that a Gen4 shortshifter will fit, though I haven't seen it done personally.

I just got my TRD short shifter on Friday, ready to be installed in my Gen3. Hopefully, I'll have some pictures to go with it just to see what the differences are.

Ok, I just tried to put the TRD short shifter onto the Gen3...and, it didn't work. The bottom half of the ball was about 1" longer than the stock one. Thus, the shifter base wasn't able to be seated at all. In addition, the bottom linkage was hitting the floor also. Everything else was a perfect snap. Mao took some pictures and hopefully, we'll get those uploaded to let you know what we saw. I've already e-mailed Wraith about how he adjusted it to fit. So hopefully, he can provide some good advice.

Ideally, it would be possible to get it to fit, by elevating the mounting base by adding an extension. This would require longer bolts, but the OEM bolts are actually welded from the bottom of the mating base that shifter base sits on. So far, that's my observation.

I got words from Wraith about the short shifter and he said that I need to get the Gen4 shifter assembly to make it work, after clipping some tabs off. So, the story hasn't ended just yet.

Could you not add some bolt extensions or something to that so that it would at least bolt up? Will the TRD shifter shift the car into gear? My suggestion would be to remove the entire shifter assembly, cut off the studs that are welded in, then drill and tap for some new bolts. Then, use some steel sleeves to make up the height you need, bolt it in, and go!!! Let me know if this works.

Yeah, that's the first thing I thought about: take the bolts out and add some longer ones, while adding an extension to support the shifter base. I'm sure this process would be much cheaper than to get a Gen4 shifter assembly. The TRD one does seem to work when I shifted into gears, since both linkages connect up.

How high does the plate sit above the bolts? Can you get an exact measurement?

Hmmm...that last picture showed how high it sat above the mounting base, about 1.5" at least. This is with the bottom linkage on the floor though. So I figure it may need at least 2" higher. I will try to get an exact measurement when I have another chance, but that's my guess for now.

cool, that'd be great! I've been meaning to check the clearence from the floor on the OEM shifter too. I want to lengthen the bottom half and shorten the top half of the OEM stick, weld it up, sand it and if it works well... cast it, and pour a solid aloy shifter.
