I have been working to remove the center console that is around the shifter and I CANNOT get off the two retaining clip/screws on each side of it. Has anyone had any experience with this and do u know how to get them off?

lol funny you asked... i had my whole center counsel all out..... but they are very hard to remove i even broke the one on the passenger side but you have to pull the center peice out...it will come out like half way and then from there you have to give it a good tug and it should pop out...just be careful cause they break easly

From your description, it could be any of a number of pieces. I'm not sure which part of the consol you're referring to.

You just have to tug at the piece you're trying to remove and feel where it is still being held down, then check that area for what it is. Sometimes, you have to remove an adjacent piece to expose the screws for the piece you are attempting to remove.

What are you going to put in place of the center console?

Nothing. Actually the only reason why I needed to get if off is becuase I dropped something down in there and I had to get it out. Fortunately, all went well. However, it involved removing 3 panels and the armrest. It was kinda a pain in the ass to get out.

There is a little rubber piece that sort of flaps open under the parking brake lever... you can drop little screws and things through there.

 Actually I thought I did. My Soundstream amp has special screws for the face plate and I had them sitting in that little pocket under the handbrake and when I was looking for them I only found one. I thought the other one fell through there and landed on the road or something!

Anyway it magically showed up under my front carpet a couple of weeks later.

I was cleaning around the shifter and i removed that rectangular piece surrounding it. At that point I removed this little black clip on the shifter right above "P" and it went flying into the mysterious cavern below the center console.
