hey guys, just wondering if any gen 3 (or any gen for that matter) owners have experienced a squealingish noise coming from the front of the car when going from drive to reverse? my car did it today and I was real scared it was dying. .then i put it in park and it stopped and wont do it again... scared for my tranny.. any ideas?

curious question: why do manuals make that funny sound when reversing? sounds like a remote control car

because reverse gears are straight cut, forward gears are cut helical.

what's helical mean? I know why Automatics don't make that sound though since I did a project on auto transmissions... basically they use different combinations of gears to make different ratios... so it uses the same set of gears to reverse than to go forward (just uses like 1 more gear than 1st gear so that it goes the other way)

bingo

the helical thing is when the teeth are across the gear, and slightly curved
