which fluid?!?!?! so confused!

i asked this question about 2 days ago. I got a 4th gen camry (98 V6). i have a pretty argument with my friend on what fluid to use in the differential because im going to change the differential fluid tomorrow. I say its Dextron II or Dextron III. He says no way. He said he is positive it is "gear oil"... someone give me some ideas. thanks for the help

1. Your friend is a idiot.

2. Our auto trannies use Dexron II/III ATF for the tranny and differential like I said in the other thread.

I wouldn't necessarily call the friend an "idiot". Manual gearboxes do use gear oil versus ATF, so I wouldn't say he's way off base. Just trying to give him SOME credit
