Post 2002 Toyota Camry 4 Cyl.

I have the 4 cyl Camry. Do you all know if the 4 cyl has a belt or a timing chain? Also, at what mileage does one change it out. I am at 124,000 miles now.

A mechanic informed me that a dealership said that it will never need to be changed and I know better than that. Anything mechanical had an expiration date....

Please advise,

Jeff

what toyo said. theres no reason to mess with your timing chain so long as it works and doesnt make unusual noise. Wait until if and when the engine needs a valve job, then change it at the same time. Otherwise, leave it alone. Change the oil and it will last at least as long as the valves.

Gen5

The chain should last the life of the motor.

Use the correct oil and change it on time and you shouldn't ever have a problem with it.

It's also nice to see that marc780/TRD_EarBanger has FINALLY learned that the 2AZ-FE has a timing chain instead of a belt.
