thanks for the interest in answering. The gear shift moves into the gears, but the car dash does not light up the gear. Also, the car won't move in any gear. I drove the car fine yesterday, no problems. My husband and boys changed the tires this am, and now it won't go. It's a 92 camry.

tires won't effect the car in the way you described... unless they gave you a HUGE tire that you can see rub against everything I doubt it has to do with the tires -- You probably want to inspect the car and see if something's wrong with the axle or even the rotors if you're really curious. get a trusting mechanic and see what's wrong.

If the dash is not lighting up to indicate the gear, does the transmission make a thump noise when it engages the gear? I am guessing that the linkage to trans is broken or the the shift selector switch (moved by linkage also) may be the problem.
