What have you heard? I've got the 2vz-fe in my wagon, and I've had no complaints with the engine, always starts up, runs well, 23-25mpg.

The rest of the car is definitely showing it's age, though. But after new struts, inner tie rod, and a few other bits, it drives rather comfotably, and is still relatively quick, even with the slushbox.

As far as aftermarket tuning? Then I agree, there's really nothing out there for the 2vz-fe...

My 2VZ-FE remains a solid car. Regarding performance, I'm still doing R&D to turbocharge it.

Although most Gen2 owners prefer the I4, I personally prefer the V6 over the I4....

What my Toyota parts manager father tells me:

-when they were new, they were kind of sluggish, ate gas (and needed premium but I doubt that) and weren't much quicker than an I4 5speed, in fact some mags of the time said just to keep the I4 5 speed

-but I haven't driven a bent-6 though I'd like to- 6700 rpm redline!

-furthermore they can be a real pain in the ass to work on (how about the rear bank of cylinders when doing plugs)

But Kenny said it doesn't need to take out the intake for replacing the plug, it only takes patience and time ...

and small hands?

I took out the plenum when I did the plugs. But I also replaced the cam cover gaskets on both banks while I was there.
It was still pretty tight back there.

Next challenge is a leaky power steering hose...

Mine burns regular gas. I don't know how it compares to the 4/manual, but to the 4/auto, it's night and day.
