Starting Problem Puzzle!
My Camry is having cold starting problems.
SOMETIMES, whenever my Camry is left overnight in 40*F or less, the next morning it will not want to "turn over". Sometimes it "clicks" (you can hear the starter solenoid click, as well as all the rest of the soleoids in the kickpanel). A couple of days ago, this happened, and I replaced it with a junkyard starter that worked fine until the car was started 5 minutes later. It did start after a couple of times. The accessories work, and the headlights are bright. The battery terminals are clean, and the battery is fresh. I have also spent a lot of time cleaning/checking/sealing all exposed terminals and grounds related to the block/engine compartment.
I also have had a problem whenever I turn off the car while leaving it in DRIVE (yes, a bad idea, but it is because I have driven manny trannies for years...I park it on sand so I don't get the normal "rolling" sensation). If I try to start the car, it will not want to start for a short spell AFTER putting it into PARK.
I check my Clymer/Chilton's manual, and it has an electrical diagram showing that the auto tranny models DO NOT have a starter solenoid between the ignition switch and the starter. In the auto tranny models, it shows the neutral safety switch in between the ignition switch and the starter.
Is the neutral safety switch or other component a problem with these cars?
edit: I must add this is a starting problem, not a running problem. The coil has already been replaced with 100% TOYOTA parts.
