rear shcok absorbers and struts

I drive 2005 Camry LE V6, 72,000 kms and was having clunking noise from my rear shockabsorbers. Took my car to the dealership and they told me that i will have to replace my shockabsorbers, along with the mounting struts. Since, I have extended warranty, I got it changed.

Just after driving out of the dealership, I felt loud banging noise (never heard this kind of noise before), evertime I stopped and start. I went back to the dealership and was told that the new part will take about a week to adjust and set with the car body since this is a redesigned part and there was something called "TSB" on my model. The noise will go away in a week. If not they will have to replace it again.

This was hard to understand. I argued what if the noise is still there, and the reply was "we will replace it again".

Does anyone had similar problem? What the heck is a "TSB" ? Why would a brand new strut and shocker assemble make noise when installed ?

TSB= Technical Service Bulletin.

Typically if a car manufacturer has an issue (design flaw) with a year/model that effects a large enough number of cars they issue a TSB. It helps the dealer diagnose and fix the problem, usually includes what parts are required, labor time to repair. It can also be used to revise repair procedures, update fluid types used, etc. The TSB is not a recall.

Never heard of this type of break in but if it is still there in a week take the car back.

They do not need to break in. You don't have shock absorbers. They're struts and strut mounts.

The dealer has made a mistake and didn't fix your problem. Maybe you have a sway bar, sway bar link problem. It could be something else. They should try to duplicate the noise on a drive on lift so they can accurately diagnose the problem.

TSB's are not information regarding design flaws. They are Technical Service Bulletins that are designed to provide information to professional technicians.
