JDM 5 Gens

Well I got in my dealer stock yesterday and was going through of what JDM cars we had available.

When I noticed something that I have not noticed before, The 5th Gen listed as brand new only comes in the 4cyl, but what shocked me was the drivetrain.

2wd or 4wd. I'm gonna call back to our Osaka offices later today after I come back from customs and see if this is an error or if it is really true.

If it is true, do you realize the potential the 5th Gen has.

This is how it was listed on the sheet:

Quote:
Make Toyota
Model Camry
Driving Type 2WD . also available in 4WD
Steering Position Right Hand Drive (on the right side of car)
Transmission Type Automatic gear
Fuel Gasoline - Petrol
Passenger Capacity 5
Engine Capacity 2400 cc
Engine Type DOHC 16 valve . V V T-i
Number of Doors 4
Available Colours See available colors of this car click
Price FOB 2WD : US$ 26.700.
4WD : US$ 28,500.

Yup... the undercarriage of the car (last I heard, anyway) has a trough for driveline components for an AWD setup.

This is nothing new. Every Camry in Japan has been available with awd. We just have not gotten the option since the 2nd gen.

Hey I never said it was something hot or new, but it was something that I just noticed, the funny thing is I usually drive the Gracia whenever I go over there, and never noticed it before. But then again I'm always trying to remember what certains words are when following directions, and making sure I don't piss anybody off while driving especially the cops.

I was going 5 miles over once and got a ticket that was like $350 US.

But this also explains why when we went to the indy areas they performed the way they did

since 4wd is available in japan, and logically, the Gen 3 came in 4wd (so says alljapanesecars.com), does that mean that it won't necessarily cost $20 grand to set up our camries to be all wheel drive?
