how to change the third brake light bulb?

Howdy Folks,

I need to change the light bulb in my wife's 93 camry LE. It didn't seem obvious to me as to how to remove the 3rd brake light housing. Looking from the trunk, it seems there are two plastic clips holding the unit, but I wasn't sure if those were it.

I'd appreciate any pointers in how to remove the housing.

TIA!

You can use a screw driver and pop it off. The plastic housing will come off, and there should be two bolts you can remove and get to the bulb.

Squeeze the cover by the sides and pry it out. The owner's manual shows you how to do it, if you have it, that is.

If the two clips look like little buttons, as they do on the Gen2, you need to press in the center pin with a small screwdriver.

Check the owner's manual (if you still have it). It gives really detailed instructions (step-by-step) on how to do it.

Thank you all for your help.

I do have owner's manual and took a look at it. It showed a vague picture of the assembly with its top above the assembly as if to show the top pops off in some fashion.

What I'd like to know is... Which way do I pull or pry out the top cover of the assembly? If I am kneeling in the back seat facing the trunk,

1. do I pull the assembly toward me,
2. pull the assembly vertically, or
3. combination of pulling and lifting together toward me.

It wobbles a bit right now and I am afraid that I may break a clip or something and have to get a new assesmbly.

Thank you for your help!
