Hi Guys and Girls,

The first question I have is regarding the woodgrain dash pieces. I have a 98 camry LE with 60,500 miles on it and with the wood grain package, the problem i am having is it appears that the woodgrain is getting ruined. It looks like there is condesation getting somehow in the pieces of wood and makes it look horrible, it appears to only be getting worse, I was wondering if anyone else had this problem and if they have stopped this problem from spreading.

The next problem I have is with the transmission. It seem everyday when I goto drive my car for the first time during that day that the second gear seems to shift funny. It either seems to stick a little bit and the go into gear or will randomly shift at a low rev, when it seems like it should not. This only happens during the first time it shifts into second though, after the first time during the day the transmission shifts fine into second gear. I brought it into the dealer twice and each time they have changed the fluid, this did not fix the problem, I have also heard from someone else that the thermostat might be doing this. Anyway any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Again,

Mike

On the wood trim, take it back to Toyota and get it replaced. I've never heard of such problems.

On the tranny, your car's tranny computer will keep the revs high in order to warm up the engine. That's why it may feel strange when you drive it first thing in the morning, especially if the weather is cold. This is totally normal.

I agree. When the weather is colder outside and the car is still warming up my car takes longer to shift; exspecially into overdrive.

I have also experienced the problems that you are having with your wooden trim. I have a 1996 Camry and it is becoming discolored it certain spots; like somekind of condensation in getting under the pieces. I have never tried taking it back to the dealer and seeing if they would replace it, cuz they would probably just charge me 500 buks for a new kit. I plan on ordering a new one online.

Actually that's not entirely true. He was saying that his SECOND gear shifts low. On a cold engine, the first and second gear WILL shift at low RPMS. However OD will not engage and if you try to go too fast, your 3rd gear will rev high. That's it.

Miked in either case, what your car is doing is perfectly normal. Nothing to worry about. If you have a remote starter, let it sit in idle for about 5 min and then drive it and it should be fine.
