94 Camry Stalls during idle

My 94 Camry stalls at idle. 4 cyl, manual ~130K. First started ~3 months ago, found a ripped air intake hose (from the air filter). Changed and used some carb cleaner to get the debris out of the intake. Changed plugs, ran ok for awhile. Started back up, doesn't matter if it's in park, drv, neut, rvs, etc... took it to a mech, nothing shows on the diagnostics, cleaned the throddle plate, replaced the TPC sensor, O2 sensor, bypassed the computer to make sure it wasn't the issue. Finally gave up and gave it back HUGE shout out to Vespia's as the didn't change me for the diagnostic labor.

I can keep it going by "two foot driving" and keeping the RPMs ~1250

Any suggestions?

First thought is to clean the IAC valve. This is located beneath the throttle body. If you look at the bottom of the throttle body you should see a small (about a quarter inch) diamond shaped hole. This leads in to the IAC valve. You can spray some throttle body cleaner in the hole and it may clean it out enough to improve your condition or you may need to remove the throttle body to get better access to the IAC and clean it out better. Do a search on the Gen 2 and Gen 3 forums. They both have some good posts on this.

Thanks for the suggestion, however, I figured it out over the weekend. It was my ECT (engine coolant temperature) sensor. I kept getting a strong gas smell and started to realized it was dying cause it was getting flooded (also why I could keep it moving at higher RPM during idle). Popped it out, slipped in a new, runs like a champ.

igglesfan,

Just wondering if you drained the coolant before you replaced the coolant temp sensor? If not, how much coolant did you lose when you replaced it?

Thanks for responding.

Mike
