im talking the interior "theatre" type lighting... when you close the door, the lights stay lit for x amount of time, then fade away... instead of instantly going off....

our tacoma does this and our sienna... but not the camry... although i know alot of camrys do it....

oh its a dimmer, don't know where they are located, but I imagine you wire it in like a switch. Ask your local toyota dealer they may know. My dad's 1991 cressida did that I think or maybe it was his 1987 cressida, anyway one of them did that.

can't u just add a small cap in parallel with it? That way it charges when the bulb is lit and discharges slowly through the bulb when u close the door.

does that make any sense at all?

I like the cap idea.... I may need to try that. In theory that would work just right.

Yeah, in theory it should. I'm trying it in the morning.
I'd start small, like say maybe a 2200uF 25V and take it from there...go higher uF value to take longer and lower to shorten the fade-out.

Nothing higher than 25V tho cuz then it puts a bit of a strain on the circuit to fully charge it. 16V is fine but I doubt you'll get those values in 16V.

uF is microfarads man (actually the 'u' has a little lead in front of it but it doesn't show up here)...if you're trying it, put +ve lead to +ve wire and so on so as not to damage the cap. a simple multimeter test for polarity will point u in the right direction.

Add cap ?

You have chance to burn out the turn On/off circuitry if you add cap. When the switch turns ON, the cap acts as short circuit. Also with 5W bulb, the resistance is 0.5 ohms. To delay the turn-off by 0.5 seconds, you need very huge cap 1F (1000 mF) to store the charge! That is not feasible. To have longer delay, you need to build the circuit which has transistor, diode and small cap ~10uF.
