I have a serious question here for you guys. Okay, towards the end of this month I will be fixing my car. Needs a new transmission and flexplate. It is currently an automatic. I will not be putting that transmission back in my car because it is garbage so I need something that will work with my 3sfe since I have plans for my engine and will not be swapping it.
I was sure I was going to do a 3sge(for better gearing) 5 speed manual conversion up until today. This is going to cost a lot, about 1,600 but I think it is worth it. It is looking likely that I will still go this route.
What did peak my interest is that 1fastLE has a 5 speed auto in his 3sge equipped 2nd gen. I wonder if this would work with my 3sfe? What year did the 3sge come with a 5 speed auto. I am pretty sure it was a JDM only option. Also, does anyone think or know if t would bolt right in. I know the manual and the engine bolts right in but what about the auto. Lastly, what about shift points. Would it try to shift so high that my engine would not be able to take advantage of the shift point or would it actually harm my engine? I do plan on having a head package done that will allow my engine to shift significantly higher but it won't be done in time for the swap. If I can save money and time by using the 5 speed automatic and it is not a complicated swap and will work fine with my setup then I will seriously consider having it done.
Anyone who can provide me with any opinions on what I shoudl do or knows anything, it would be really really appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Okay, so it has been brought to my attention that there might not have been a 5 speed automatic mated to a 3sge? Can anyone confirm. And was this available only in Beams 3sge or was it available in the 180hp 3sge that came in the fwd Celica models in Japan?
I also found out that the US camry with 3sfe and Celica with 3sge used the same automatic transmission. This would seem to lead to the fact they should be compatible but I am not sure. Actually, after finding out more stuff I am just more confused and no closer to learning what I need to know.
well since I can't find out anything about this supposed 5 speed tranny at all and 1fastle won't respond to this or the PM I sent him for whatever reason, I guess I will be sticking with the 3sge 5 speed manual. I have a feeling it probably would be cheaper anyway.
Fresco Bob, i pulled it off in dry road conditions, hahaha. it wasn't intentional. i was just starting out to learn to drive manual, after driving an auto for 3-4 years.
