i did a search about some maaco opinions, some were good, some were bad, but no real information about it, nothing in depth, so anyway...
i need to get my kit (rmm front lip and shogun rear and sideskirts) painted, would maaco be good enough just for that? theyre prices seem unbeatable but you get what you pay for...
also, painting the whole car, i cant really afford the 1-2 grand for a paint job for a while, and im not happy at all with my cams color (sunfire red) would the maaco full paintjob be a bad idea?
dont just reply with yes or no's i want some info thats why i made my own post
I got my Car painted from them almost 2 years ago, I got the $400 paint job and another $400 to get all the dings and dents out. They missed 2 dings on the trunk, and then after a few months, bubbles started to show in the rear bumper. So I took it back and they were more than happy to fix it with no fuss. So when I went to pick it up, the manager said one of the new guys screwed up the paint when he was putting the emblems on the trunk (the glue had melted alot of the paint off), So he took it back, and after they fixed it, I took it home and noticed they had done a crappy job (too many little things to list). So I went back, told them what they did.
They had my car for a week, and when I went to pick it up they had re-painted my whole car with the $800 polyurithane paint job and had ordered brand new emblems and put them on. I was surprised. I asked the manager why he did this and he said "I was sick and tired of having to keep fixing your, we had it for a total of 2 weeks, and you dont see much customer service these days so I try to do my best."
I really like the paint job on my car, it looks like the car is brand new. They did a really good job with handling the problems and had exelent customer service (at least were I live).
I think it depends if the shop in your area is good or not. I think you'll be fine, the prices are very affordable and the quality is pretty good for the price.
So I would say its a good idea to get your kit and car painted from them. (esspecially when your on a budget)
truth be told is this, maaco will basically paint your car as long as you have the money...they may not even wash it and clean it before they paint it...
on top of that, their cheap prices are cheap cause you do get what you paid for
however, that is not to say they don't know what they're doing...if you do the prep work yourself and buy the paint yourself, they'll most likely only charge a hundred or so to paint the car with the kit on it...
i went out and got bonod, ppg paint, and my own clear coat...did all the prep work myself (stayed the same color) and had maaco spray it for me...so basically i got their topend full body paintjob for a lot cheaper
Maaco will do a good job if you want them too. By that I mean, even with them, you get what you pay for. I know the one around me gives really good customer service also because I had my car done their recently and they messed up but knew I needed my car so gave it back to me and let me bring it back at my earliest convience where they then fixed the problem. If you want them to remove emblems and do extra work, you have to tell them exactrly what it is you need. Same thing goes if you want a paint job that will be 1st class and last a long time. You will have to pay more but it will still be cheaper than most other places. Guys at the Maaco I went to even all knew my name when I came back and were giving me compliments on my ride.
They get a bad rap but I think it is just because people take there car in there, get a 300 dollar paintjob and then are pissed when it doesn't look like a 2000 dollar one.
actually the color looks alot different on sunny day, its a 02' Ford Miniral Gray with mettalic flake, sparking in the sun, i liked the color of the new mustangs so i decided i wanted that color little different......lots of people dont like it from photos but like it when see it in person
Back in the day my ol' lady had a gray '87 Grand Marquis which was painted by them... we did prep and got a hi-end paint job but after 2 years it was f***ed. Def hit or miss with them

Here in NYC, I have yet to run into anyone at Maaco (or any other shop) who is straight-up with you. The only thing the Maaco locations in NYC care about is your $$$. Here in NY, they get over on you.
I myself don't expect the "hookup" to get a good deal for less money.
I don't mind paying the money, as long as it's a reasonable price and the work is done right with no BS.
Here in NY, you will pay through the NOSE for a decent job. They take your money and your car waits FOREVER.
You want your car done in a couple of weeks?
$$$$$$$$ <-until they tell you to stop.
This is why lots of guys I know will take their chances on going out of state. It's a bad situation here.
Most of these auto body & paint shops here in NY, Maaco or not, are all crooked.
If there's any honest and reputable shops in NYC, they are very few and far in between.
i know what you're talking about man I'm starting to look for a place now to paint a few body parts. Its gonna be apin in the ass, if you of any place let me know.
Doesn't Maaco also allow you to paint your own car? I heard sumwhere that you pay them a certain rate per hour for use of the equipment and then you pay them for the paint or brin gyour own paint and you can paint it urself, sumthing like that. Anyone ever heard of that?
