Talking Winter Driving Comments

How does your Camry fair in the snow? This is my first winter with my Camry, and I cant belive how good it is. I just put my car in gear and I was off. I have a 5 speed and i was wondering how good your Camry is in the snow? Is a standard transmission better in the snow than a Auto?

Thanks

a standard is only as good as the driver. If you dont know how to shift, u can put it in the ditch, where as auto is pretty straight forward.

I just took my cam out the other day and I got to 4 blocks away and had to turn back because I was sliding everywhere. And when I went back to the parking spot I got it stuck and wound up getting fed up and just left it "sorta parked". The rear is like 3 feet away from the curb.

I slid 200 feet towards a red light last night...
This was in a Gen 2.
I went to hit the brakes, and the whole car started sliding.
Did as the drivers ed class said... let your foot off the brake, and just coast... the ass end came out on me... *defensive driver mode ON*
Counter steered that situation away, and finally came to a stop.

Grr... scariest 10 seconds of my life.

Other than that... I don't think I have much tread left on ym front tires... too much full throttle around here, and the wheels just keep on spinning

I do alright if my tires are decent. Just don't push it cause you've got a lot of momentum driving a relatively heavy car like that.

Standard transmission is the best. Start to slip taking off from a stoplight? Bump it up to second and you're fine!

we gotta go up a pretty steep hill just beside our house, and if all else fails, going up backwards always works

NOOOOOO! Going up backwards only works on rear wheel drive cars. If your driving a Camry thats the LAST thing u wanna do.

What affect does snow have on a car with low profiles and alloy rims? I hear everyone talking about switching back to their steal wheels. But I dont really understand why other than wasting tread.

i've got good snow tires on, i can go though about 2 ft of loose snow if i can keep my speed up

put me in a foot of stuff from the plow and i'll get stuck if i slow down, that's why i got 200ft of rope and a 2 ton comealong in my car though

well...no other effect on lows on rims than on steelies ... I guess the only reason to change is to protect the rims from sliding against the curb and.. SALT

Umm... a couple years back in my gen3, I was turning a curve which also happened to go downhill... only problem was that black ice was all over the road and I didn't realize it. Guess what? Rear end came out on me, slid myself all the way downhill, and ended up rear ending some lady in a Volvo SUV going about 5mph. You would not believe the repair costs for that accident...
