larger wheels in Consumer Reports

The Jan. 2004 issue of Consumer Reports magazine has an article with the plusses and minuses of replacing your factory wheels with larger rims and tires.

Essentially, the article says that the factory sizes are for all-around driving, not necessarily for show. The ride and especially adverse-condition handling take a dive when you start looking +3". Or so they say -- I'm still rockin' the 14" steelies until I get her paid off.

Food for thought.

Yup. Wider tires are easier to hydroplane in...
bigger rims make for a rougher, but more controllable ride....

if you want bigger wheels, id suggest your nice rims for late spring, summer and fall and rock your steelies for the winter and early spring...
cant hurt to have 2 sets of rims and tires since winter tires will wear quickly in drier conditions and summer tires dont fair well in the winter.

The Cross Bronx is crazy, it has potholes that could swallow an entire car! I think the only thing I'd take on that road would be an H1 Hummer or a tank
