Australia Replacing overhead camshafts

Hi Folks,

I have a 1989 Camry with the F3S motor.
I had to remove the overhead camshafts to get to the cylinder head bolts as I was replacing the head gasket and timing belt.

Being a clever bugger I forgot to note/mark the alignment of the camshafts relative to each other. I can find plenty of info on replacing the timing belt and aligning the crankshaft to the inlet camshaft etc. But I cannot find any information on how to align the exhaust camshaft relative to the inlet camshaft. (Hope that makes sense).

Can anyone help me with some info or a link about this ??

Many Thanks
Sparggy

According to my service manual (and also assuming that you have a 3S-FE engine), there should be two dots/marks on the right cam gear side (looking from the front of the motor). Match them together so they look something like this, when facingthe cam gear ( -)(- ). Hope that makes sense and good luck!

Recommend you check out www.techinfo.toyota.com. From this site, you can get every service manual, TSB, training pub, owner's manual, and more for pretty much all but the most ancient Toyotas. The catch is that it's a pay service. Rates are, in US$ 10 per day, 50 per month, or 350 for a full year. On a day when you have the time, you could pay for one day, and download and save virtually everything you'd ever need to take care of your car.
